Frequently Asked Questions

What are teeth?

They are the organs of mastication, chewing, tearing and grinding. They allow the ingested food to be broken down, mixed with saliva and swallowed. Enzymes begin the process of digestion. Teeth are made of 98% calcium and are the hardest substance in the body. The outer covering is known as the enamel. This also has an outer thin layer known as the 'pelical' layer or biofilm and it is this 'film' that attracts the staining over the years from foodstuffs and coloured acidic fruits and drinks. Smoking, coffee and tea are particularly common causes of staining.

How many treatments do I need?

Normally you only need one treatment session, followed by 6 monthly top ups but this is at your discretion, we will not pester you. You should plan for 60 minutes to allow for consultation and treatment. You can have further treatments if you want to achieve a greater degree of whitening but you must allow a minimum interval of 3 months between treatments.

How many shades will my teeth whiten?

No one is the same; most people will whiten between 3 to 14 shades depending upon the amount of staining from smoking, dark food and drink.

How long will it last?

If you follow our aftercare advice with regular cleaning the results should last for a minimum of 6 – 12 months. You can safely have top ups at 3 to 6 months intervals for £50.00

Who may it not work on?

Experience tells us that the shade you were given genetically when growing your adult teeth cannot be altered. We can only take your teeth back to their natural colour no matter how many treatments are given.

What does it cost?

This is where we have been able to achieve a real price breakthrough, which we are delighted to pass on to you. The treatment itself is currently on offer at £99.00. Your consultation is free of charge. Due to the high demand for this treatment we will ask for a £50 deposit when you book – this is non-refundable unless we decide we cannot go ahead with treatment for any reason at the time of consultation.

Are there any reasons why you might not be able to treat me?

There are a few medical reasons why we may have to decline treating you. If you have received any dental treatment you should allow an interval of at least 2 weeks before receiving the whitening treatment. Finally, this treatment works best if your teeth are already in good condition and certainly if you need fillings or other dental work you should have this done first. Teeth whitening should be seen as the finishing touch to otherwise sound teeth.

If you are pregnant or breast feeding we cannot treat you.

Are there any risks?

Research data to date shows there is no risk to the gums or enamel of the teeth.

Will I need some recovery time?

It is unlikely that you will need any recovery time. There is a small chance that you will experience some temporary gum sensitivity for up to 48 hours.
For 48 hours following the treatment you will be advised to avoid highly coloured food and drink during this period. It is especially important that you avoid smoking, as smoking will seriously contaminate the newly whitened teeth causing severe discoloration.
